Comtech X-Band Low-Noise Block Down Converter (LNB) Series

Comtech’s X-Band Low-Noise Block Down Converter Series (LNB) meets or exceeds system requirements for commercial and military geosynchronous satellites worldwide.

Their compact design and rugged construction make them ideal for transportable applications and
severe environments. They have a comprehensive set of options to accommodate systems ranging from Very Small Amplifier Terminal
(VSATs) to major earth stations. The X-Band LNB allows for interfacing, at the antenna, with our LPOD family of X-Band outdoor BUCs
for sourcing of the LNB bias voltage and high stability reference in either single or redundant configurations.

Technology

The amplifiers incorporate both HEMT devices for low-noise temperature performance and GaAs FET devices for low intermodulation.
The units use surface mounted components for robotic manufacturing techniques, thereby ensuring maximum product consistency and
enhanced reliability. The X-Band LNB includes integrated filtering to address adjacent power issues peculiar to demanding X-Band
terminals.

Reliability

The amplifier series utilizes proprietary circuitry and high-quality components to achieve an MTBF in excess of 160,000 hours. Each unit
is subjected to a 72-hour burn-in and temperature cycled from -40 to 140°F (-40 to +60°C).

Construction

The LNBs are housed in waterproof enclosures with small profiles to better accommodate redundancy configurations. The enclosures
also provide a pressurizable, integral waveguide flange.

Accessories

Transmit reject filters, cables and other integration materials are offered as required.

Subsystems

1+1 (one backup for one primary) and 1+2 (one backup for two primary) redundant LNB systems are available, complete with mounting
plate, brackets and indoor redundancy controller/power supply. Transmit reject filters, cables and other integration materials are offered
as required.

Xicom XTRS-400X-B1 X-Band SSPA with Block Upconverter

The Xicom XTRS-400X-B1 is a highly efficient rackmountable solid state power amplifier (SSPA) designed for fixed and mobile uplink applications.

RF filters, isolators, cooling, and monitor and control (M&C) systems are all self-contained within the package.

Rack space is conserved because the amplifiers occupy only 7 rack units (12.25 inches) of a standard 19 inch rack cabinet. Nominal weight is 140 pounds.

The unit features a menu driven front panel display, RS-232/422/485 serial port and Ethernet interfaces for complete computer control. Forward power, reverse power and temperature, and default parameters are easily monitored on the four line front panel display.

Gain control is provided via the front panel or through the remote interfaces.

A high frequency resonant conversion power supply is used that accepts a wide range of prime power (90 to 264 VAC). Power factor correction circuitry is also included which minimizes line current distortion and reduces the required Volt- Amps input.

The amplifier includes an integrated L-Band Block Upconverter that interfaces to standard modems operating in the 950-1450 MHz range. The L-Band transmit signal and 10 MHz reference are brought to the unit over a single coaxial line.

Depending upon user requirements, this high power amplifier can be configured for single thread, redundant, or phase combined configurations.

Xicom XTS-40X-B1 40W X-Band Block Upconverter (BUC)

The Xicom XTS-40X-B1 High Power Solid State Block Upconverters (BUC) are a series of compact fully integrated antenna mount units designed for low cost operation and longevity.

The L-Band input interfaces to standard modems operating in the 950 – 1450 MHz range.

Intended for outdoor operation, the XTS-40X-B1 eliminates the need for a separate shelter. The construction and light weight allows for direct mount to the antenna. This eliminates long waveguide runs and associated RF losses.

Forced air cooling is implemented in the package to allow reliable operation over extended temperature ranges. The monitor and control (M&C) interface provides a component system status.

The block upconverter operates from an external, weatherized power supply which provides the system DC sources.

The L-Band transmit signal and 10 MHz reference frequency are brought to the unit over a single coaxial line.
