Comtech EF Data’s SLM-5650A Satellite Modem is compliant with the strict requirements defined in MIL-STD-188-165A, modem types I, II, IV, V and VI for applications on DSCS, WGS and commercial satellites.

Data rates from 64 kbps to 155 Mbps and symbol rates from 32 ksps to 64 Msps are supported.

The modem provides standard MIL-STD-188-114 (EIA-530 / RS-422), and EIA-613 (HSSI) serial interfaces, and can be optionally configured to support G.703 and Low Voltage Differential Signaling (LVDS) serial interfaces. It can also optionally be equipped with a 4-port 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet Network Processor module that supports switching, routing and advanced Quality of Service protocols.

The SLM-5650A can be integrated with the Vipersat Management System (VMS) to provide fully automated network and capacity management. An AES-256 TRANSEC module, compliant with the FIPS-140-2 NIST standard is also available as an option. All traffic (including overhead and all VMS control traffic) is encrypted when using the TRANSEC module.

Advanced forward error correction (FEC) capabilities are a Comtech EF Data standard feature. Viterbi, Trellis, Concatenated Reed-Solomon, Sequential, and Turbo Product Codes are all supported.

Advanced FEC and modulation capabilities are integrated with the revolutionary DoubleTalk® Carrier-in- Carrier® bandwidth compression allowing for maximum state-of-the-art performance under all conditions. This combination of advanced technologies enables multi-dimensional optimization, allowing satellite communications users to:

  • Minimize required satellite bandwidth
  • Maximize throughput without using additional transponder resources
  • Maximize availability (margin) without using additional transponder resources
  • Enable use of a smaller BUC/HPA and/or antenna
  • Or, a combination of the above to meet specific mission needs

The Media Router S2-ASI (CMR-5995) enables the reception of DVB-S and DVB-S2 transport stream and IP-based multimedia (video, audio and data) content to be delivered over satellite and distributed to remote devices connected to the MR-S2 via an Ethernet LAN ASI or both.

The MR-S2 is unique, since it provides DVB-S2 and ASI receive, MPEG-TS to IP, ASI filtering/combining streams in one package.

Comtech EF Data MBT-5000 L-Band Up/Down Converter System

The Comtech MBT-5000 Up/Down Converter System provides frequency conversion between L-Band IF and C-/X-/Ku-Band RF frequencies.

The RF marketplace has been transitioning from traditional 70/140 MHz IF-based networks to systems using L-Band (950 to 2000 MHz) for the modem/RF equipment link. The MBT-5000 Up/Down Converter System provides this frequency conversion between L-Band IF and C-/X-/Ku-Band RF frequencies. Featuring a drop down front panel providing access to two “hot swappable” frequency conversion modules, this unit offers either a mix of conversion functionality or 1:1 redundant system operation.

Designed for rack mounting , the MBT-5000’s 1RU 19-inch chassis front panel contains all operator controls, indicators and displays for local and remote with RF, IF, power, and communications interfaces on the rear. When configured with the redundancy option, the main chassis contains two diode “OR-ed” internal power supplies for increased reliability along with the necessary IF/RF switches. Providing the level of RF frequency conversion performance that has historically been associated with 70/140 MHz rack mount converter systems, the MBT-5000 provides a smooth IF infrastructure upgrade path.

The Comtech Radyne SFC4200A C-Band Synthesized Frequency Down Converter has been designed to provide performance that meets or exceeds industry standards. The SFC4200A features also provide ease of integration and operation.

Designed to handle extreme ratios of adjacent carrier power, the SFC4200A offers the highest standard input P1 dBm in the industry at -19 dBm. With a typical noise figure of 10 dB at 40 dB gain, the SFC4200A can receive signals below -110 dBm with an aggregate input power of -25 dBm. This represents a receive dynamic range in excess of 85 dB. At 40 dB of gain standard, or with the 60 dB gain option, the SFC4200A will easily integrate into any size earth station while eliminating the need for receive line amplifiers, even for installations that employ power splitters on the downlink.

The SFC6400A offers the highest standard output power of any rack-mount up converter available. With an output P1 dB in excess of +15 dBm, the SFC6400A may eliminate the need for line amplifiers in your next installation. Installation of the SFC6400A into any existing earth station is easily accomplished due to the presence of independently adjustable input and output attenuators that provide total gain control of 50 dB. The input attenuator optimizes the existing IF power applied to the converter to a level which guarantees optimal performance over 30 dB of input signal power. Output power is adjustable over 20 dB, which further guarantees that spurious performance is maintained independently of up converter gain.
