Ateme IRDs and Encoders now at Satcom Resources

Satcom Resources is happy to announce a new affiliation with the French broadcast equipment firm Ateme, makers of the Kyrion CM5000 Modular Contribution Encoder, the Kyrion DR5000 SD/HD MPEG-2 / MPEG-4 IRD, and the Kyrion DR8100 SD/HD MPEG-2/MPEG-4 IRD.

Kyrion DR8100 SD/HD MPEG-2/MPEG-4 Integrated Receiver Decoder

ATEME’s line of professional Integrated Receiver Decoders is a set of cost-effective solutions for the distribution of video services.

The IRDs are designed for SD applications and offer an upgrade path to HD, allowing operators to leverage their existing SD infrastructures with a solution in place for HD migration.

The series is fully compliant with DVB and ATSC standards. The IRD line offers today’s video professional a satellite inputs or IP inputs with additional ASI input. The IRD provides high quality MPEG2 and MPEG-4 decoding of SD and HD video formats with SDI outputs. Kyrion DR5000 SD/HD MPEG-2 / MPEG-4 Integrated Receiver Decoder

The Kyrion™ DR5000 is ATEME’s latest Integrated Receiver Decoder dedicated to professional contribution over satellite and IP / ASI networks. Kyrion DR5000 is a single channel decoder with outstanding capabilities, providing easy setup and fast signal lock while achieving great robustness that meets all operational requirements.

Kyrion DR5000 is able to receive video feeds on 4 selectable RF inputs, 2 ASI inputs and 2 IP inputs. Capable of decoding all profiles from Standard Definition to High Definition, either MPEG-2 4:2:0 or 4:2:2 or MPEG-4 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 up to 10-bit, it can address any field use case. Based on optimized design and compact form factor, Kyrion DR5000 yield operational efficiencies and can be entitled as a green solution.

Leveraging ATEME ‘s unique FPGA design, Kyrion DR5000 permits a complete software upgradeability SD to HD or 4:2:0 to 4:2:2, providing the broadcasters, satellite up-links, service operators, and the DSNG Users to benefit from the state-of-art of video compression standards.

Kyrion CM5000 Modular Contribution Encoder

The Kyrion™ CM5000 is a new modular hardware encoder dedicated to contribution over satellite, IP and ASI networks. It can be mounted as a single or dual channel encoder, or single channel encoder and DVB-S/S2 modulator. Optional audio boards for analog or digital inputs can be added on two extension slots.

The Kyrion CM5000 delivers all MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC video compression flavors: from SD to HD and 1080p50/60, and from 4:2:0 8-bit up to 4:2:2 10-bit with unrivaled video quality and reliability.

NJRC 150W BUC Power Supplies

The NJRC NJZ 1286 Power Supply Unit (PSU) provides stable +48 VDC power to operate both 10W C-Band and 8W Ku-Band BUCs when the modem power supply is not sufficient.

The 150W AC/DC PSU includes a bias-tee to pass 10 MHz reference and L-Band IF signal (950 – 1700 MHz) from the modem, and has a corrosion-proof aluminum housing for indoor use.

Dual PSU and BISS available for Ericsson MX8400 Transport Stream Multiplexer

Announcing two major functionalities on the Ericsson MX8400 – Dual Hot Swap Power Supplies and BISS encryption.

Dual Hot Swap PSU
The MX8400 has been available with a single fixed PSU. Ericsson is introducing a new MX8400 chassis that supports a dual hot swap power supply.

Two versions of the MX8400 chassis are available. Care should be taken to ensure that the right part number is it will not be possible to upgrade from one chassis type to another:

  • MX8400/BAS – Original chassis with a fixed single PSU
  • MX8400/BAS/DPS – New chassis that supports dual hot swap PSU; comes with one PSU fitted.

An optional second power supply (MX8400/HWO/DPS) is required to turn the MX8400/BAS/DPS chassis into a hot swap PSU unit.

Whether the original chassis or the one with dual power supply is used, the multiplexing functionality as well as the number of option slots available between the two chassis are identical.

MX8400 has supported DVB CSA since its release in July 2007 and is integrated with a number of difference DVB CSA vendors.

Ericsson’s MX8400 now supports BISS encryption as well as DVB CSA. It is possible to have both these enabled on the MX8400 simultaneously. Furthermore it is possible to scramble services within a single transport stream with either BISS or DVB CSA. However it is not possible to scramble a service within a transport stream with both DVB CSA and BISS.

BISS can be enabled on the MX8400 by application of the appropriate licenses.

Comtech SLM-5650A Satellite Modem

Comtech EF Data’s SLM-5650A Satellite Modem is compliant with the strict requirements defined in MIL-STD-188-165A, modem types I, II, IV, V and VI for applications on DSCS, WGS and commercial satellites.

Data rates from 64 kbps to 155 Mbps and symbol rates from 32 ksps to 64 Msps are supported.

The modem provides standard MIL-STD-188-114 (EIA-530 / RS-422), and EIA-613 (HSSI) serial interfaces, and can be optionally configured to support G.703 and Low Voltage Differential Signaling (LVDS) serial interfaces. It can also optionally be equipped with a 4-port 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet Network Processor module that supports switching, routing and advanced Quality of Service protocols.

The SLM-5650A can be integrated with the Vipersat Management System (VMS) to provide fully automated network and capacity management. An AES-256 TRANSEC module, compliant with the FIPS-140-2 NIST standard is also available as an option. All traffic (including overhead and all VMS control traffic) is encrypted when using the TRANSEC module.

Advanced forward error correction (FEC) capabilities are a Comtech EF Data standard feature. Viterbi, Trellis, Concatenated Reed-Solomon, Sequential, and Turbo Product Codes are all supported.

Advanced FEC and modulation capabilities are integrated with the revolutionary DoubleTalk® Carrier-in- Carrier® bandwidth compression allowing for maximum state-of-the-art performance under all conditions. This combination of advanced technologies enables multi-dimensional optimization, allowing satellite communications users to:

  • Minimize required satellite bandwidth
  • Maximize throughput without using additional transponder resources
  • Maximize availability (margin) without using additional transponder resources
  • Enable use of a smaller BUC/HPA and/or antenna
  • Or, a combination of the above to meet specific mission needs

The Comtech EF Data CDM-750 Advanced High-Speed Trunking Modem was designed to be the most efficient, highest throughput, point-to-point trunking modem available. The CDM-750 accommodates the most demanding Internet Service Provider (ISP) and telco backhaul links by offering users the most advanced combination of space segment saving capabilities while minimizing the need for unnecessary overhead. With the ability to process packets at line speed, the CDM-750 will not throttle throughput due to processing limitations.
Beginning with the most efficient coding and modulation available, the CDM-750 leverages the DVB-S2 EN 302 307 LDPC/BCH standard to provide the best possible combination of coding and foreword error correction ensuring that the maximum amount of satellite traffic is transported for a given signal to noise capacity.

Implementing Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM) operation (in packet-based applications) allows link margin to be converted to user capacity during non-faded conditions by taking advantage of the actual signal to noise ratio rather than calculated worst case signal to noise. This technology transforms link margin, implementation margin and margin for antenna pointing directly to improved throughput.

By using the best encapsulation methods, the CDM-750 further increases throughput by using minimal overhead. In G.703 synchronous mode, users can implement monitor and control over the satellite with no additional overhead. When using Ethernet bridge mode, less than 1% overhead is used for encapsulation.
