The Comtech EF Data CDM-750 Advanced High-Speed Trunking Modem was designed to be the most efficient, highest throughput, point-to-point trunking modem available. The CDM-750 accommodates the most demanding Internet Service Provider (ISP) and telco backhaul links by offering users the most advanced combination of space segment saving capabilities while minimizing the need for unnecessary overhead. With the ability to process packets at line speed, the CDM-750 will not throttle throughput due to processing limitations.
Beginning with the most efficient coding and modulation available, the CDM-750 leverages the DVB-S2 EN 302 307 LDPC/BCH standard to provide the best possible combination of coding and foreword error correction ensuring that the maximum amount of satellite traffic is transported for a given signal to noise capacity.

Implementing Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM) operation (in packet-based applications) allows link margin to be converted to user capacity during non-faded conditions by taking advantage of the actual signal to noise ratio rather than calculated worst case signal to noise. This technology transforms link margin, implementation margin and margin for antenna pointing directly to improved throughput.

By using the best encapsulation methods, the CDM-750 further increases throughput by using minimal overhead. In G.703 synchronous mode, users can implement monitor and control over the satellite with no additional overhead. When using Ethernet bridge mode, less than 1% overhead is used for encapsulation.

The DMD2050 provides highly advanced and bandwidth-efficient forward error correction (FEC). Advanced FEC options include Turbo Product Codes (TPCs) and Low Density Parity Check (LDPC). Legacy support for Viterbi, Trellis, Concatenated Viterbi Reed-Solomon, and Sequential FEC are also included. A complete range of modulation types is supported including BPSK, QPSK, OQPSK, 8-PSK, 8-QAM, and
16-QAM.

Advanced FEC and modulation capabilities are integrated with the revolutionary DoubleTalk® Carrier-in-Carrier® bandwidth compression allowing for maximum state-of-the-art performance under all conditions. This combination of advanced technologies enables multi-dimensional optimization, allowing satellite communications users to:

  • Minimize required satellite bandwidth
  • Maximize throughput without using additional
    transponder resources
  • Maximize availability (margin) without using
    additional transponder resources
  • Enable use of a smaller BUC/HPA and/or
    antenna
  • Or, a combination of the above to meet
    specific mission needs

Data rates range from 2.4 kbps to 52 Mbps and symbol rates from 4.8 ksps to 30 Msps.

The modem provides a standard MIL-STD-188-114 (EIA-530 / RS-422), serial interface. It can optionally be configured with EIA-613 (HSSI), G.703 (T1/E1/T2/E2 & T3/E3), DVB ASI/SPI and 10/100/1000 BaseT Ethernet Interfaces. Drop & Insert functionality is supported on the G.703 interface.

A dual IF interface supports low IF (52-88, 104-176 MHz), and L-band (950-2000 MHz) frequency ranges.

Cost-effective, ultra-high reliable systems are enabled in conjunction with the RCS-11 1:1 redundancy switch, and/or the RCS-20 M:N redundancy switch.

Norsat 1000XH Ku-Band Compact External Reference LNB

The Norsat 1000XH External Reference PLL LNB provides the best system BER performance and is used in applications requiring very fast data acquisition time or very low data rates.

The single reliable connector supplies the 10 MHz Compact External Reference the DC power from the receiver and the L-Band IF signal to the receiver. Compact External Reference LNBs require specifically designed receivers and are used in the following applications:

  • SCPC digital or analog voice channels

With the innovative high performance architecture, the CDM-740 allows efficient IP networking and transport over satellite links while supporting a wide range of applications and network topologies. The CDM-740 offers dual Gigabit Ethernet interfaces with industry leading packet per second (PPS) processing.

The unit transmits industry standard TPC interoperable with CDM-570/L, -562L and -564/L modems up to 9.98 Mbps. The receive side supports DVB-S/S2 operation at L Band up to 62 Msps. Available configurations include receive only and duplex.

The CDM-740 utilizes a high performance processor and a real-time operating system (RTOS) combined with multiple Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) for optimal performance. All non-volatile memory is provided by both onboard and Compact Flash devices. Field upgrades are easily loaded via the Ethernet port.

The platform includes support for CCM and VCM operation. VCM allows operators to define groups of remotes that can have different modulation and coding parameters to improve efficiency on existing satellite capacity.
