The AVP 4000 is powered by Ericsson’s first ever video processing chip.

This completely new 10 bit Ericsson designed and built encoding chip, builds on two decades of market leadership in encoding algorithms and techniques, delivering outstanding picture quality at HD and SD, in both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC.

Codecs and resolutions can be upgraded via software, removing the need for complex hardware changes. The Ericsson chip is multi-codec, multi-profile and multi resolution, offering both encoding and transcoding. The AVP 4000 delivers levels of quality, performance and operational flexibility, not found on conventional encoding products. All of these benefits translate to the bottom line.

THE AVP ‘ONE PLATFORM’ PHILOSOPHY

A new approach to encoding
The Ericsson AVP ‘one encoding platform’ approach represents a modern approach to encoding product design.

In the media industry, the speed of change is increasing. New requirements and workflows are emerging. That’s why its important not to put unnecessary constraints on products. For example limiting a product to 8 bit operation, or 4:2:0 or a single codec, or a single workflow, may satisfy today’s immediate requirements but maybe not tomorrow’s.

With the AVP ‘one platform approach’, there are no such restrictions, as 10 bit, 4:2:2, JPEG 2000 and 3DTV are available today. SDI, HD-SDI, 3G, IP, ASI and IP connectivity are all supported. Legacy interfaces include Analogue, G.703 and GPI.

UHDTV workflow at 4K is also supported.

A rich common toolset allows media organisations with differing encoding applications, to deploy AVP in a wide range of roles, including DSNG, Contribution, Distribution and delivery to the home. That offers potential cost savings in commissioning, integration, training and support, compared to a multi-vendor ‘mix and match’ approach.

The rugged, lightweight terminal is based on ViaSat SurfBeam® 2 technology and builds on the success that made ViaSat SurfBeam the product of choice for Ka-band direct-to- home Internet service. With more than a million terminals shipped, the SurfBeam network has a record of proven reliability, scalability and performance.

The ViaSat SurfBeam 2 Pro Portable Terminal is designed for users requiring high throughput connectivity in a compact and portable package. Field reporters, remote medical and peace workers, and emergency responders benefit from high-speed Internet with the convenience of “near-instant” connectivity even in locations where no other communications infrastructure is available. The form factor is ruggedized to support operation in harsh conditions and supports multiple configuration options to suit user needs. The complete system, including the satellite terminal and antenna, can be packed into a single case for transit and is lightweight enough to be carried by a single user.

The unit enables fast web browsing and supports video streaming, file transfers, VPN connections, and bandwidth-intensive Internet applications. It is capable of delivering downstream rates up to 40 Mbps and upstream rates up to 20 Mbps, and provisioning tools enable the network operator to create different classes of service with configurable downstream and upstream rates. The modem has an embedded acceleration client that works with acceleration servers in the gateway to provide a faster, more responsive user experience. With four standard Ethernet connections, the terminal natively supports up to 4 IP devices, such as PCs, cameras, and routers as well as other user equipment. The antenna includes a collapsible satellite reflector and feed, transmit and receive electronics. The modem can be deployed attached to or located separately from the antenna.

The compact SurfBeam 2 Pro Portable Terminal is designed for a quick and reliable user installation in less than 10 minutes by personnel with minimal satellite training. Maindata MD5600 IP Encapsulator

The Maindata MD5600 IP Encapsulator presents gateway between IP and digital television networks. It is mandatory equipment in any digital television network for provisioning data services.

IP Encapsulator basic function is to encapsulate IP Packets into digital television MPEG Transport stream packets. IP encapsulator presents gateway between IP and digital television networks. It is mandatory equipment in any digital television network (e.g. DVB-S, S2, DVB-T, T2, ATSC, ISDB etc) for provisioning data services.

Add-on function of MD IPE is QoS allowing to manage data channel bitrates, wet min (CIR), max (PIR) bitrates and priority. QoS main feature is to maximize bandwidth usages dynamically.

In a case entire e.g. DVB channel is used solely for IP services, for example in a case of satellite internet, IPE connects directly to the modulator, most typically via DVB-ASI interface (IP interface is an option). In a case when data services are provided along with TV services IPE connects typically to multiplexer, again via DVB-ASI or IP interface.

IP Data, mainly file downloads, are much less time critical to be transmitted comparing to TV programming. Bandwidth of TV service fluctuates according to the content, part of broadcast capacity remains unused – filled by null packets.

There are 2 possibilities how to provide data services using this unused part of the bandwidth.
a) Place IPE behind multiplexer in front of modulator. In this case IPE acts also as remultiplexer and by replacing null packets by data uses bandwidth left free by TV services. In this case IPE has input for MPEG TS, e.g. DVB-ASI.
b) Leave IPE before the multiplexer, and make multiplexer inform IPE about unused bandwidth. This technique is called “opportunistic data” insertion.

MD IPE encapsulator performs most critical functions, while BNMS provides management layer, including WEB user interface. One BNMS can control many IPEs. IPEs connected to one Digital TV transmission present 1 cluster. In case one of them fails traffic is automatically rerouted to next one.

RMC – remote monitoring client is used to monitor traffic of IPE cluster, PID or data channel and its overheads. RMC is a Java application and thus can be run at different operating systems.

The Skyware Global Type 123 1.2 m Class II RxTx Antenna is a rugged commercial grade product suitable for the most demanding applications. The reflector is thermosetmolded for strength and surface accuracy.
